What is Cryotherapy?
Localized Cryotherapy exposes a targeted part of the body to sub-zero temperatures. This triggers the body's natural fight or flight response, causing freshly oxygenated blood to the targeted body part, hence aiding in healing and recovery.
Why Try Cryotherapy?
It's fast, more comfortable than an ice bath, and super beneficial! You've been told many times to ice an injury or swollen area as ice relieves discomfort by constricting the blood flow to an injured area to reduce swelling and inflammation. While an ice bath is beneficial, to achieve the desired outcome, you have to sit in it for 20 minutes resulting in extreme discomfort. With Localized Cryotherapy, the air circulating is colder than an ice bath, but DRY, so it’s not nearly as excruciating as cold water.
How Does Cryotherapy Work?
Your skin surface drops approx. 30-45 degrees F, causing your body to send signals to the brain to draw blood to your internal organs for protection. While the blood is in your core, it picks up oxygen and nutrients which stimulate your body’s natural healing process. As soon as treatment ends, your brain decides where it should send the oxygen and nutrient-rich blood first.
